Obsessed with...

Scarves!

I love wearing a comfy plain tshirt with a scarf and jeans.

It's probably my go-to outfit, and definitly what I am most comfortable in. 

As I have accumulated more and more over the past few months, I was having trouble figuring out how to store them...

In a bin? They get wrinkly.

On a hanger? Not super accessible.

In a shoe organizer? Still wrinkly.

In a dresser drawer? Damnit! they are still wrinkly.

At this point I was distraught...WHERE can I keep my scarves?

We decided to use hooks like these from Ikea for our towels instead of a towel bar, so we had an extra towel bar we werent using!

First I tried out my scarves while it was still on the wall in the bathroom...and I loved it!

Handy Hubby put this up in our closet and it is my favorite part of the closet!

Scarves not wrinkly? Check.

Scarves easily accesible? Check.

See all my options at once? Check.

                            

Now I have somewhere to put all of my new scarves wonderful people got me for christmas!

While I hope to do a more in-depth post on each of these projects...I'd thought I'd pop in to show you what we have been up to the past month!

This is my parents house, and we've been working so hard!

Here's how it looked a few weeks ago with all the tile! Pretty awesome and this is definitely the biggest project we have tackled in our house, and our parents and we're both really pleased how it turned out!

Then we moved to Grandmas house......

And turned this.....

into this!!! I LOVE how this turned out and grandma loves it even more. Handy Hubby strikes again.

We've now turned back to our house and we're working on OUR master bathroom...here's some sneak peak pictures:

The big step reveal!

They are finally done!!! We started our steps and it turned out to be a long project, but I am absolutely in love with how it turned out. You can find step one here, step two here, but just for kicks, lets take one last look at the before:

Overall, this was a very easy project to do, but it was very time consuming. But if you're looking for a frugal, but high end step redesign this is the way to go!

Here is how the final budget broke down for this project:

1 roll of kraft paper: $4.79

2 Large bottles of glue: $1.75

Mocha wood stain: Already had for another project

Clear poly: Already had from previous projects

White paint: $16 on clearance from Home Depot--Will be using this again though too, so I cant decide if this counts or not!

Total: $22.54

We are just about done in the basement for right now, we just have to put a light in the stairwell right now since you can see how dark it looks. We're still trying to decide the best way to do this, but we'll keep you updated!

The Step Project- Part 2

The Steps....the next step!

This project is definitely taking A LOT LONGER than I thought. But here's the progress:

Every other step is covered & dried. This took about 48 hours.

Next you just brush a light coating of a stain color of your choice and the use the ragging technique to "rag off". Basically you take a paper towel or cloth or used tshirt and using a rolling action blot the stain off. Its not an exact science, so go nuts :)

Let this dry for at least a day, and then repeat the WHOLE process on the other half of the steps

Has anyone ever tried anything like this? How did it turn out?

Bathroom ReDo!

The before picture is kind of blury, but we have made several small changes that made a BIG impact:

1. Replaced the toilet (I think every toilet should be replaced in a new home, its just sanitary!)
2. Replaced all hardware including new water efficient shower head, curtain rod, and cabinet handles
3. Painted the entire room gray ( this room has huge cathedral ceilings)
4. Skylight removed, waterproofed and replaced
5. Fancy shower curtain and bath mats
6. New shelving and all those "aesthetic" accents

Left to Do:

1. Paint all the trim white
2. Replace light fixture
3. Fix the sink or replace it (the previous owners drilled a hole in the basin--how sweet of them!)
4. Paint the mirror & vanity --What do you guys think black, or white?
5. Some sort of towel storage perhaps something like this: Ikea Shelving

I just love how this turned out!

This is part of what I was busy with this weekend, instead of cleaning which I probably should have been doing! Thanksgiving for us is this coming sunday, and I still feel like I have SO much to do. But I'm sure I will get it all done, I work best under pressure. What is your favorite room in your house to decorate or re-decorate?

A sneak peak....

We've been in our house for about 8 months now, but the first 3 months were spent renovating/cleaning. We bought a foreclosure and it has beautiful bones, and was only 20 years old!  Owning a home has been quite the adventure, but I can honestly say that I have enjoyed every minute of it and wouldn't trade anything for it (OK, maybe not the nights up till 2am painting and cleaning...). Here is a sneak peak of what we first saw when we walked in our house for the first time...

 WOAH.

That's a lot of pink. Is that really textured wallpaper? Cool?? But that staircase is...amazing. And we could get a ladder to paint...right?  That's what went through my head. You can see our dining room, which would turn out to be a room I spent the most time painting.

Fast forward two months of closing, a lot of packing, and more hard work than I thought I was capable of, we have our dream home.  

         

This week I will post pictures of the interior before and afters, which include lots and lots of paint (turns out pink is a VERY stubborn color), flooring, gallons of 409 and bleach, and of course magic erasers.

Never the less, pink or not, this is our home, our nest, and we love it.
